Position: Middle School Athletic Director
Term: 9 Months
Classification: Certified/Exempt
Location: Joplin High School
Qualifications: MO Teaching Certificate; Experience as an Athletic Director, Head Coach or athletic supervision is preferred.

Essential Functions:
- Develop vision and mission for middle school athletic programs that is consistent with mission and vision of Joplin Schools.
- Develop a comprehensive middle school athletic program and intramural basketball program at all Joplin Schools.
- Ensure middle school athletic facilities are conducive to safe play and properly maintained.
- Evaluate middle school and intramural programs, as well as coaches associated with these programs.
- Work with coaches, athletes, and other stakeholders to set goals for each program, monitor those goals, and make necessary adjustments.
- Develop and maintain middle school student-athlete handbook.
- Develop a schedule for middle schools athletic and intramural competitions.
- Manage middle school athletic competitions. Including working with middle school administration to provide proper supervision at all competitions, including the intramural program.
- Work closely with middle school athletic secretaries to insure proper game management (i.e. gate workers, scorekeepers, clock operators, concessions, etc.)
- Work with the Transportation Department to meet the busing needs of athletic and intramural programs.
- Ensure that the athletic program at all three Joplin Middle Schools adhere to all MSHSAA guidelines and regulations.
- Assist middle school secretaries at each building in determining and certifying student-athlete eligibility.
- Recommend expenditures of middle school athletic budget to the district athletic director.
- Maintain practice schedules for extracurricular and intramural programs and provide for adequate facilities and accommodations for coaches and players.
- Ensure proper supervision, reconditioning, cleaning and storage of middle school athletic equipment.
- Develop and maintain a proper communication structure with student-athletes, parents and coaches.

- Share pertinent information regarding middle school athletic programs through the school website, as well as social media.
- Attend conference, district (if necessary), and State meetings/conferences.
- Carry out all other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
An individual who holds this position must frequently move in and around buildings and grounds to visit classrooms, attend meetings and supervise bus loading and unloading areas and sit for an hour or more at a time, and lift up to 25 pounds.

Conditions and Environment
The work environment is consistent with a typical school office environment; however the individual who holds this position will occasionally be required to be outside in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees. The individual who holds this position is frequently required to work irregular or extended hours.
