Position: School Nurse Substitute

Joplin School District is in need of qualified RN and LPN School Nurses to be "on-call" throughout the school year. Positions will be dedicated to a substitute duty roster and successful candidates will be notified for short and long-term assignments when staff nurses are absent.

Essential Functions:
- Assumes responsibility for appropriate assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation, management, and/or referral activities.
- Serves as the direct link between physicians, families, and community agencies to assure access and continuity of health care of students.
- Upholds professional standards, the state Nurse Practice Act, and other state and local statutes and regulations applicable to school nursing practice, and adheres to district policies and administrative guidelines.
- Administer daily and emergency medication to students.
- Administer appropriate level of first aid for illness and injury
- Make parent contacts when appropriate regarding a student’s illness or injury
- Provides screening and referral for health conditions.
- Promotes health, safety and a healthy school environment.
- Monitors immunizations, and assures appropriate exclusion from and re-entry into school.
- Reports communicable diseases as required by the State of Missouri.
- Implements precautions for blood borne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
- Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
- Provide accurate documentation of health room visits and details of care given in student’s health record.
- Maintains strict confidentiality.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
Physical Demands
An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:
- Be capable of physically assisting students with specials needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.)
- Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously
- Move around the classroom
- Read handwritten or printed material
