Position:                       Speech Language Pathologist/SLP-A/Implementer

 

Term:                           9 Months

If you are a positive and confident Speech Language Pathologist looking for a dynamic career opportunity with an innovative and highly respected educational organization, join the Joplin School district! We are seeking a self-motivated and friendly Speech Language Pathologist to provide services to students throughout our district. You will develop Individual Education Programs (IEPs), interventions and educational materials to minimize the adverse impact of communication disorders, in accordance with state and federal regulations. As a Speech Language Pathologist with Joplin, you must possess excellent written communication skills, to develop IEPs and document student progress and superb verbal communication skills to facilitate collaboration with fellow educators, administrators and parents as well as supervise speech therapist implementers. You also must be able to work independently and be accountable for your work.

  

Consideration will be given to SLP-A candidates with licensure through the Missouri Board of Healing Arts. 

 

Should an SLP or SLP-A not be the candidate of choice, Joplin will consider a highly qualified and experienced speech implementer. Must have a valid Missouri Teaching Certificate. Preference will be given to teaching certifications with Early Childhood emphasis.

  

Qualifications:

  • Valid MO Teaching Certificate
  • Bachelor’s Degree, required, Master’s Degree, preferred

Additional requirements for the Speech Language Pathologist include:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Speech Language Pathology
  • CCC or CFY eligible
  • No experience required; experience working with students with autism, multiple disabilities and moderate to severe cognitive disabilities preferred
  • Ability to assess, analyze and remediate identified communication disorders, including articulation, voice, fluency, language and processing
  • Wide knowledge base incorporating evidence-based practices
  • Ability to drive to various school building locations based on your caseload

Essential Functions:

An individual who holds this position is required to:

  • Provide instruction to students
  • Create and implement a classroom disciplinary plan
  • Create lesson plans and activities to implement and supplement instruction
  • Participate in building, grade level and subject area committees
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Maintain accurate student records including attendance, grades and discipline
  • Complete and submit forms and required reports in a timely manner
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress and other educational concerns
  • Participate as a member of an IEP team, 504 team or other student assistance teams as requested
  • Implement special educational plans such as 504 plans, individual educational programs and individual health plans
  • Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassments as directed by Board policy
  • Prepare lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher

Physical Demands

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

  • Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously
  • Move around the classroom
  • Read handwritten or printed material

Conditions and Environment

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active.  Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
